Volavka Service Learning Grant

This grant is named after Bill Volavka who was a naturalist, artist, and generous spirit from Washburn who loved this community and its people. When he passed away in 2011, Mr. Volavka kindly bequeathed the bulk of his estate to the WCEF to promote ingenuity, stewardship, and good works. As a tribute to his great generosity, WCEF offers the Volavka Service Grant to assist Washburn High School students needing assistance to fund their service projects.  After approval by the WHS Service Committee, grant applications come to the the WCEF Board for approval the first week of November. Awards range from $100 to $200 per student and more for student groups. In November 2014, $1,700 was awarded to Washburn High School students to assist them in accomplishing their service projects.
